Linking to O'Reilly for Higher Education Content
Safari Books Online is now O’Reilly for Higher Education.
- Improved interface with broader content including e-books, audiobooks, learning paths, videos, and more.
- Instructors should not plan to use this as a textbook replacement (not allowed by license), but this can be used for supplemental course materials.
- Unlimited users, but all users must authenticate - even on-campus.
Links to the Safari database will likely not redirect. The resources should be the same, but each link will need to be recreated in the new O'Reilly database.
You can add a stable link to the whole O'Reilly for Higher Education collection

O'Reilly for Higher Education Persistent Links
On-Campus and Off-Campus users must authenticate (log in with their college email address and password) to Madison College Libraries via EZproxy
To create an O’Reilly persistent link (durable url) which will allow off-campus access through EZproxy:
Linking to e-books in O’Reilly for Higher Education
O’Reilly currently does not have a permalink feature that will consistently allow users access through EZProxy. You will have to build a URL as follows:
- Find the item you’d like to link to in O’Reilly
- Copy the highlighted portion of the link in the address bar. This is essentially some version of title/isbn

- Paste that portion of the link into the following
https://ezproxy.madisoncollege.edu/login?url=https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/machine-learning-for/9781789136364/?ar&email=^u
The generated link should allow proxied access to the full view of the e-book for Madison College users.
Shared playlists
To access a shared playlist:
- Users should first access O'Reilly through the full collection link: https://ezproxy.madisoncollege.edu/login?url=https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/temporary-access/?email=^u
- Users should then enter the URL for the shared O'Reilly playlist. Here is a sample playlist link to try: https://learning-oreilly-com.ezproxy.madisoncollege.edu/playlists/8c675f0f-6846-483d-afef-be6f30d1f6d4
