Madison College Libraries Policies: Borrowing/Fines

Borrowing Privileges

Students

Students are strongly encouraged to present a OneCard to check materials out of the library. If students do not have a OneCard, they can present a valid state issued photo ID.  Students should be encouraged to get and use their OneCards. They must have a photo ID.  Any exceptions to this rule must be made by the permanent staff person on duty.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and Staff are encouraged, but not required to use their OneCard.  Without a OneCard, another form of ID must be consulted to confirm the identity of an unknown staff member.

Community User

Community users don’t have a OneCard. They must have a valid state issued ID to check out materials and they must complete the Community User application.  Community users have limited access to services and resources.

Overdue Materials and Fines

Users are responsible for materials borrowed from the library. Please keep the following in mind:

  • Truax Library charges the following fines: Audiovisual and reserve materials are $1 per day overdue.
  • Students with long overdue materials will be charged replacement costs.
  • Users will be fined if materials are lost or damaged.
  • Library privileges may be suspended until all overdue library materials are returned and fines are paid.

Fines and replacement charges may be paid in person at the circulation desk or by mail: Madison Area Technical College Library 1701 Wright Street Madison, WI 53704.

Please note: Students who have outstanding charges may have a hold placed on their academic record and will be unable to register for classes or receive transcripts until these obligations are met.
