Below is a list of full-text journal titles related to LGBTQ+ studies (including the databases where you can access them):

What about reference books?

Madison College Libraries have a collection of reference books on the shelf; however, e-reference (meaning electronic and online) can be very helpful when researching specialized subjects. Credo Reference is a great resource for searching LGBTQ+ topics:

Search everything!

You can search books, films, and articles within WorldCat Discovery! Understanding keywords & subject terms will help narrow search results when trying to find popular and scholarly LGBTQ+ materials.

Search Tip #1. It is important to understand the difference between keyword and subject searching.

KEYWORDS: Use of natural, community-based language, and modern terminologies. More flexible phrase-related searching, similar to using Google. Searches both the description and full-text of available materials. Provides more search results, but with potential for less subject-based relevancy. SUBJECT TERMS: Use of terminology defined by library cataloging (called "controlled vocabulary"). Less flexible searching; the words you use look for assigned terminology only. Searching may require learning new subject terms to broaden results. Provides less search results, but with greater assigned subject relevancy.

Search Tip #2. Searching for LGBTQ+ materials can be tricky because often standardized subject headings (or labels) assigned to what you want to search for are out-dated or too clinical. Knowing this, keyword searching is an effective method to use when looking for LGBTQ+ information, because it better supports modern, evolving, and often community-based terminology.
