Multimedia Assignments

Madison College Truax Libraries group study and multimedia studios allow students who are working on creating or editing multimedia projects for academic purposes to use additional hardware and software beyond the standard Madison Area Technical College lab configuration, and provide a collaborative workspace for small group study, projects, and presentations. For example:

  • Add audio narration to your Powerpoint presentation
  • Record a podcast, vlog, or videocast for a class assignment
  • Edit short video projects such as a speech, interview or presentation for a class
  • Create and practice group presentations
  • Study collaboratively or view academic media as a small group

There are 3 group study rooms available which can be reserved by students for one hour at a time. You can check availability and reserve a study room at the Madison Area Technical College Truax Library Circulation Desk. The rooms are frequently in use, so you should reserve a room ahead of time. Students using the rooms and/or equipment must read and sign a usage agreement form. We do not have any multimedia equipment that can be checked out of the library and we don’t have video camcorders for student use.

Students must also schedule an appointment in advance if they want assistance with getting started on a multimedia project using the library equipment and software. This is a separate process from reserving the room or equipment. Contact us to schedule an appointment. Drop-in assistance is generally not available.

Be sure to bring your prepared script, and any other equipment you may need such as a camera, power adapters, and cables. We have some usb and firewire cables for student use in the library, but we can't assure that we have every cable a student might need to work with their camera.

Students are responsible for their work and for saving their files. Your H drive won’t have enough space for multimedia projects. If you make an appointment ahead of time, we can help you get started and give some general suggestions, but students are responsible for their own assignments.

Keep in mind that multimedia projects take a lot of time, so please plan accordingly.
