New Media and Education: Streaming Media

What does it really mean to "stream" media?

Streaming refers to the way content is delivered to the viewer. When a show is streamed, that means it is delivered continuously from the source over a wired or wireless internet connection. Streaming is an alternative to downloading, in which the user needs to obtain the entire content file on their device before watching or listening to the content. Streaming allows users to access content without taking up storage space on their device, unlike downloading.
