New Media and Education: Pinterest

Potential Educational Uses

Marketing rarely takes place on the Pinterest platform as colleges have moved towards Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok to target their student populations. However, many students still find Pinterest useful to create mood boards and find creative inspiration.

Potential educational uses include:
  • Mood boards (photography, art, culinary, fashion, cosmetology)
  • Shared boards for group projects
  • Individual class boards
  • Links to articles
  • Follow other institutions & creators

Pinterest and Copyright

Serious concerns have been raised over Pinterest's copyright policy relating to ownership of information and appropriate use of images.

Featured Tool - Pinterest

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that allows users to 'pin' images on various boards.  Users can also follow other Pinterest users and repin and comment on other users' pins, making the experience more social.

Pinterest also allows users to have secret boards so other users cannot view their pins.

To join the site you may login through your Facebook, Twitter, or email account. Pinterest may prove especially useful to visual learners, as well as those studying topics such as art, art history, photography, fashion design, retail merchandising, culinary studies, and cosmetology.
