Economics: Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics: Definition

"Macroeconomics is the study of economics – the big picture. It is the branch of economics that is concerned with the study of whole economies or systems. It may include aspects such as balance of payments, fiscal policy, government income and expenditure, investment, inflation and unemployment. It aims to obtain an understanding of the influence of all economic factors on each other and quantify and predict aggregate national income. Macroeconomics deals with such questions as: What impact does government policy have on the economy? What effect does international trade have on the economy? Why do business cycles exist? It is to be contrasted with microeconomics, which looks at economics at the level of companies or constituent parts of an economy."
